Cryotherapy is the practice of applying extreme cold to the skin for surgical or medicinal purposes i.e., skin tag removal, tick removal, or wart removal. Typically, an agent such as dimethyl ether (for home use) or liquid nitrogen (at the medical centre) is used.
Dimethyl ether is a colourless, odourless gas that is used as a cryotherapy agent. It has a boiling point of -24.9 °C and is usually stored under high pressure to keep it in a liquid state. It is non-toxic and does not contribute to depletion of the ozone layer.

To remove a tick, the applicator should be held 1cm above the tick with the aerosol dispenser positioned vertically. The device should be pressed three times to release the cryoliquid to kill the tick.
If the tick still moves after ten minutes, the process should be repeated. The tick should then fall out after freezing or can then be lightly dusted off the skin.
